Cryptographically Isolated.
Zero Backend Data Ingestion.
How BrowserPowerToys delivers desktop-grade utility processing entirely inside your browser's local sandbox—without transmitting a single byte of your documents, passwords, or files.
The fundamental vulnerability of traditional online file converters (such as PDF mergers, image compressors, or code formatters) is their architectural reliance on remote compute servers. In legacy workflows, your sensitive files are uploaded over the internet, temporarily stored in cloud storage buckets (e.g. AWS S3 or GCP Cloud Storage), processed by backend workers, and streamed back to your machine.
BrowserPowerToys eliminates this entire attack surface by decoupling utility processing from remote servers. Every utility runs 100% locally within your browser sandbox using modern web standards:
WebAssembly (WASM)
Near-native binary execution compiled directly from high-performance C/C++ libraries, running in an isolated memory space inside the browser tab.
Web Workers
Heavy compression and encoding tasks execute on isolated background threads, preventing browser freezes without network offloading.
Native WebCrypto API
Cryptographic hashing and password entropy utilize window.crypto.subtle and window.crypto.getRandomValues() directly within the browser engine.
HTML5 Canvas Pixel Manipulation
Image scaling, format transcode, and PDF rasterization happen directly in GPU/CPU memory buffers with zero disk writes.
| Security Dimension | Legacy Cloud Utilities (ILovePDF, TinyWow, Smallpdf) | BrowserPowerToys Local Sandbox |
|---|---|---|
| Data Ingestion | Files uploaded over HTTPS to multi-tenant cloud servers | 0 Bytes Uploaded; files stay in volatile device RAM |
| Data at Rest | Stored on disk/cloud storage for 1–2 hours in temporary buckets | Never written to server disk; wiped upon tab close |
| Network Egress Risk | Susceptible to man-in-the-middle or server-side compromise | Air-Gapped Operation; works with Wi-Fi disconnected |
| Regulatory Liability (GDPR / HIPAA) | Third-party operates as a Data Processor; requires formal DPAs | Zero Data Processor Liability; provider never handles data |
| Browser Policy Enforcement | Arbitrary API calls allowed to external analytics/ad networks | Strict Content Security Policy (CSP) restricts outgoing traffic |
🔑 JWT Decoder & Claims Inspector
When developers inspect JSON Web Tokens (JWTs) on conventional sites, tokens containing sensitive user IDs, roles, and secret headers are often logged on remote servers.
BrowserPowerToys decodes JWTs using simple in-browser string split and atob() Base64 decoding directly in JavaScript. No network request is ever dispatched when a token is pasted or parsed.
🎲 Cryptographic Password Generator
Many web generators use Math.random(), which is pseudo-random and vulnerable to seed prediction.
Our generator invokes the browser's native Cryptographically Secure Pseudo-Random Number Generator (CSPRNG) via window.crypto.getRandomValues(). The generated entropy matches military-grade desktop password managers.
#️⃣ Cryptographic Hash Generator
Checksums for text and files are generated via the W3C Web Cryptography API (crypto.subtle.digest). Files are streamed locally via the FileReader API in chunks, allowing you to compute SHA-256 checksums on large multi-gigabyte files without any file upload.
🖋️ PDF Redaction (Paint & Erase)
Drawing black boxes in conventional PDF viewers does not delete the underlying text; anyone can select or copy the hidden text layer.
BrowserPowerToys flattens and rasterizes redacted pages into static pixel maps, completely destroying the vector and text streams beneath the redacted area before generating the output PDF.
We do not ask for unconditional trust. You can independently confirm our security claims using standard developer tooling built into Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge:
DevTools Payload Filter
Press F12 (or right-click → Inspect) and switch to the Network tab. Filter by Fetch/XHR. Select and process any confidential document or paste sensitive text. Observe that 0 bytes of payload data are transmitted.
The Physical Air-Gap Test
Load any tool on BrowserPowerToys, then completely disconnect from the internet (turn off Wi-Fi or unplug your Ethernet cable). Run your processing task. It will complete seamlessly because all computation code is cached and executed entirely on your local CPU.
Volatile Memory Zeroization
All file ArrayBuffers, canvas contexts, and parsed token claims reside solely in volatile tab memory (RAM). When you close or refresh the browser tab, the operating system and browser garbage collector permanently reclaim that memory. Zero temporary files linger on disk.
For enterprise legal and security teams, uploading corporate documents to online converters introduces substantial regulatory overhead:
- GDPR / UK-GDPR (Articles 4 & 28): Under GDPR, transmitting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to an online server requires executing a Data Processing Agreement (DPA). Because BrowserPowerToys never receives, accesses, or processes your personal data, no data processing occurs on our infrastructure.
- HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act): Medical records and Protected Health Information (PHI) cannot be shared with unauthorized third parties without a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Using BrowserPowerToys ensures PHI never crosses your enterprise network boundary.
- SOC 2 & Confidential NDAs: Legal contracts, source code snippets, and financial spreadsheets remain entirely within the user's localized browser boundary, ensuring full compliance with corporate confidentiality covenants.
Frequently Asked Questions
Technical questions regarding our client-side sandboxing, memory lifecycle, and compliance.
How can I independently prove that files are never uploaded?
You can verify our zero-upload guarantee in two reproducible ways: 1) Open your browser's Developer Tools (F12), switch to the Network tab, filter by Fetch/XHR, and execute any conversion or processing task. You will observe that exactly 0 bytes of file payload or document contents are transmitted. 2) Load any tool page, completely disconnect your internet connection (turn off Wi-Fi or enable Airplane mode), and run your task. The tool completes successfully offline because all computation runs locally on your device's CPU/GPU.
Can employees use BrowserPowerToys for confidential corporate documents, NDAs, or medical records?
Yes. Traditional online converters require uploading sensitive files to remote third-party cloud servers where they are temporarily stored in remote file systems. Under GDPR, HIPAA, and corporate NDA agreements, uploading protected data to third-party servers creates compliance risk. Because BrowserPowerToys executes 100% client-side in browser RAM, your files never leave your workstation. We never act as a Data Processor because we never ingest or receive your data.
How does the Password Generator and Hash Generator ensure cryptographic security?
Our security tools rely strictly on the native W3C Web Cryptography API (window.crypto.subtle and window.crypto.getRandomValues). We do not use predictable Math.random() implementations. Hashes (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512) and password entropy are computed using the browser's own optimized C++ crypto engines directly in memory.
How does PDF Paint & Erase prevent redacted text from being recovered?
Many substandard PDF editors merely draw a black colored rectangle over text, leaving the underlying text vector data completely intact and selectable in the document structure. When you paint or erase on a PDF page in BrowserPowerToys, that specific page is flattened and rasterized into a high-density bitmap, physically destroying the underlying vector and text streams before compiling the new PDF.
What outbound network requests does BrowserPowerToys make?
BrowserPowerToys makes zero outbound requests containing user documents or tool inputs. Our Content Security Policy (CSP) restricts network egress strictly to our own domain and anonymous, aggregate pageview telemetry (Google Analytics 4). Telemetry pings never contain file names, file sizes, document contents, passwords, or decoded token payloads.
